New Development Contributions Policy (2025)
2025 AUCKLAND COUNCIL’S NEW DEVELOPMENT CONTRIBUTIONS POLICY (2025)
Starting 1 July 2025, Auckland Council will implement a revised Development Contributions (DC) Policy to help fund over $10 billion in new infrastructure across key growth areas. The policy ensures that developers pay their fair share toward infrastructure such as transport, parks, stormwater, and community facilities — not ratepayers.
Why It Matters: Responds to expected population growth of 200,000+by 2034. Reduces pressure on existing services while enabling urban expansion. Final DC costs were lowered from the initial proposals after public consultation.
What’s New: Lower-than-proposed fees for most areas (up to $47,000 less per unit). A 2% annual increase applies from 2026 onwards to maintain fairness. Applies to all new consents from 1 July 2025 onward.
Who It Affects: Developers: Predictable contributions and time to plan. Ratepayers: Protected from subsidising future developments. Homebuyers: More affordable initial build costs.
