Surveying Support from Demolition to Construction – Howick Pakuranga Community Sports Centre

Extending an existing sports centre comes with more complexity than simply building something new, the existing structures, changing site conditions and multiple teams working from different plans all need to come together accurately.

RPC – Surveying Planning Engineering has been supporting this project from the initial site survey through to construction, providing the survey information and set out required to keep the works moving and the project on schedule.

Our early involvement began by surveying the existing building and concrete areas, establishing an accurate picture of the site for the design and construction teams. We then set out the earthworks, relocated sports fields and construction gridlines for the new extension.

One of the most important checks came when we compared the proposed building grid with the existing steel structure; the two did not align, so identifying this early gave the builders, designers and engineers an opportunity to review and coordinate the information before the discrepancy created problems further into construction.

As the project moves into the foundation and structural stages, RPC – Surveying Planning Engineering is setting out the new steel columns and continuing to provide survey support as construction progresses. With weather, water and changing site conditions adding further challenges, having reliable survey control on site is essential.

Our role will continue through to completion, with as-built surveying of the finished slab and columns, Council certification and robotic set out of the internal walls.

Our involvement so far in this project:

  • Existing site survey.
  • Earthworks and sports field set-out.
  • Construction gridline set-out.Surveying support from demolition to construction at Howick Pakuranga Community Sports Centre.
  • Existing steel column alignment checks.
  • Coordination with builders, designers and engineers
  • New steel column set-out.
  • Ongoing construction survey support.
  • As-built survey of slab and columns.
  • Council certification.
  • Robotic internal wall set-out.

For our client, having our combined land development services has meant having a surveying partner involved throughout their entire project, helping identify potential issues early, ensuring construction is positioned accurately and providing finished works that are as close as possible to, and reflective of, the original architectural designs.
